Spanish La Liga
Teams: Celta Vigo 2-2 Real Madrid
Venue: Estadio de Balaídos
Date: 7 January 2018
Real Madrid have fallen 16 points behind La Liga leaders FC Barcelona after they drew 2-2 with Celta Vigo at the Estadio de Balaídos.
With 13 minutes played, the home side nearly took the lead through Iago Aspas, who rattled the upright from close range.
The hosts squandered another chance in the 25th minute as Maxi Gomez picked out Daniel Wass, who placed his effort wide of the post from close range.
Celta's pressure eventually paid off in the 33rd minute as Wass latched onto a fine pass from Aspas before lobbing the on-rushing Keylor Navas, 1-0.
Three minutes later, Los Blancos were level as Toni Kroos played a fine pass for Gareth Bale, who fired a low effort into the far corner, 1-1.
Real completed the turnaround in the 38th minute when Bale netted his second by turning home Isco's cross, 1-2.
That proved to be the final chance of the half as the visitors went into the break leading.
After a quiet to the half, Celta nearly restored parity on 60 minutes through Jonny, whose effort from distance sailed inches over the crossbar.
10 minutes later, the hosts were awarded a penalty when Aspas was brought down. The Spanish striker stepped up to take the spot kick but saw his effort saved by Navas.
However, Celta were not to be denied in the 82nd minute when an un-marked Gomez headed past Navas from close range following a cross from the right flank, 2-2.
Lucas Vazquez had a chance to win the game for Real in the 90th minute but the winger could only fire straight at Ruben Blanco from close range and Celta held on for the point.
