Spanish La Liga
Result: FC Barcelona 4-1 Levante
Date: 20 September 2015
Venue: Camp Nou
Lionel Messi and Neymar were among the goals, as Barcelona thumped Levante 4-1 at the Camp Nou on Sunday evening.
Luis Enrique made a number of changes from the side that drew with AS Roma, as Luis Suarez and Andres Iniesta dropped to the bench, while youngsters Munir El-Haddadi and Sandro Ramirez were handed starts.
After a quiet opening to the game, Messi nearly handed Barcelona the lead in the 16th minute when he forced Ruben into a good stop from inside the area.
The visitors went close to breaking the deadlock in the 28th minute when the ball fell for Nabil Ghilas in the box, but the Algerian dragged his effort wide of the mark.
Enrique's men were left frustrated by Ruben once again in the 37th minute, as he denied Messi once again, before Sandro fired the rebound effort wide of the upright.
However, the hosts eventually opened the scoring shortly after break when an un-marked Marc Batra showed good chest control before slotting home at the near post.
The lead was doubled in the 56th minute when Dani Alves floated a cross to back post which found Neymar, who squeezed home an effort at the near post.
Barcelona were presented with a chance to extend their lead in the 61st minute when they were awarded a penalty, which Messi converted into the top corner.
Levante managed to reduce the deficit in the 66th minute as Víctor Casadesús slotted home from six-yards out, after Marc-Andre Ter Stegen failed to collect a routine cross.
The hosts were awarded another penalty in the 74th minute when Messi was brought down in the box, however the Argentine stepped up and blazed his effort over the crossbar.
However, Messi redeemed himself in the 89th minute as he cut in from the right, before firing a effort into the bottom corner to round off a comfortable win for Barcelona.
The win sees Enrique's men return to the top of the La Liga standings, while Levante drop to 16th spot.
