Result: Barcelona 1-2 Real Madrid
Date: 02 April 2016
Venue: Camp Nou
Goals from Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo handed Real Madrid a 2-1 win at FC Barcelona to end the Catalan's 39-games unbeaten run.
The first chance of the game fell to the hosts in the ninth minute as Neymar attempted to pick out Luis Suarez, who failed to make the right connection with the goal at his mercy.
Gareth Bale proved to be Real's best attacking outlet in the first half and he had the visitors' first chance in the 25th minute when he volleyed over the crossbar from inside the area.
Keylor Navas came to visitors' rescue in the 42nd minute, as the Los Blancos shot-stopper produced a good stop to keep out Dani Alves' half-volley.
Karim Benzema endured a frustrating first half and he squandered a chance to break the deadlock before the break, as the Frenchman volleyed way over the crossbar under no pressure.
The score remained goalless at the halftime break.
The Catalan giants eventually broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half, as Gerard Pique headed home Ivan Rakitic's corner at the near post.
Real managed to level matters in the 62nd minute when Toni Kroos' deflected cross found Benzema, who acrobatically fired past Claudio Bravo.
Things turned sour for Zinedine Ziande's charges in the 83rd minute, after Sergio Ramos was given his marching orders after picking up his second yellow card of the game.
However, Real took the lead two minutes later as Bale did well to pick out Ronaldo, who controlled well, before firing home from a tight angle, 2-1.
Barcelona pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but they could create any openings in the final third, as Real held on for the win.
Despite the defeat, the Catalan's remain seven points ahead of Real and six points ahead of second-placed Atletico Madrid with just seven games to go.
