Atletico Thump Woeful Real

Atletico Madrid claimed an impressive 4-0 win over cross town rivals, Real Madrid, at the Vicente Calderon on Saturday afternoon.

Carlo Ancelotti was without the services of his senior defenders, Sergio Ramos and Pepe, while James Rodriguez also missed out through injury.

Diego Simeone's men were dealt a blow after the 10-minute mark, as influential midfielder Koke had to be substituted due to injury.

Despite the early setback, Atletico went ahead in the 13th minute courtesy of a strike from Tiago, although Iker Casillas should have done a lot better.

The lead was doubled five minutes later, as Guilherme Siqueira picked out Saul inside the area and the midfielder acrobatically fired past a helpless Casillas.

Real, meanwhile, failed to register an effort target, as Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema struggled to get themselves in the game.

Antoinne Griezmaan came close to getting a third for Atletico in the 59th minute but his powerful volley was palmed away by Casillas.

Griezmann was not to denied in the 67th minute, the french midfielder got on the end of Saul's knockdown to scramble the ball over the line.

Mario Mandzukic rounded off the scoring 89th minute, turning home Fernando Torres' delightful cross. while Ancelotti's charges only managed one effort on target throughout the 90 minutes.
