Report: 8 Players On Zidane’s Axe List

Real Madrid have already dropped 10 points behind bitter rivals FC Barcelona in La Liga. As a consequence, Zinedine Zidane has reportedly placed eight players on his axe list.

Los Blancos once again dropped points in the Madrid derby last weekend – the fifth game in which they have dropped points this season.

James Rodriguez, Alvaro Morata, Mariano, Pepe and Fabio Coentrao all moved on to pastures new ahead of this season, while only Dani Ceballos and Lucas Hernandez joined the La Liga and UEFA Champions League winners.

Club president Florentino Perez has clearly tried to lure some of the best Spanish talents to the La Liga giants, but the new additions are yet to settle in properly.

As a consequence of the team's relatively poor start to the campaign, Zidane has reportedly placed as many as eight names on his axe list in order to gain funds for reinforcements, according to Don Balon.

Injury-prone former world record signing Gareth Bale is understood to be high on the club's exit list after picking up several injuries this campaign already. It is believed the club's bosses are fed up with seeing Bale on the sidelines when he is needed the most.

The biggest surprise on Zidane's reported axe list is Luka Modric, who is often regarded as the brain in Real's line-up. It is not clear why Zidane would want to get rid of the Croatian, and it does seem unlikely. In addition, Lucas Vazquez and goalkeeper Kiko Casilla were also mentioned.
