Real Madrid will reportedly attempt to hijack Manchester United target Jose Mourinho if they are eliminated from the UEFA Champions League next week.
Just when it seemed Los Blancos coach Zinedine Zidane could shrug off most of his critics after the El Clasico win at FC Barcelona last weekend, his team were embarrassed by Wolfsburg in Europe's premier club competition on Wednesday night.
They now need to overturn a 2-0 deficit in the second leg next Tuesday if they want to reach this season's Champions League semi-finals.
According to the Daily Mirror, Real president Florentino Perez will attempt to bring Mourinho back to the Santiago Bernabeu if Zidane and company fail to eliminate Wolfsburg.
Perez is reportedly still keen to reunite with the former Los Blancos coach and reportedly tried to re-hire "The Special One" in January.
If Real are knocked out of the competition by the Bundesliga side, they would end the season without any silverware.
United, meanwhile, reportedly still haven't made up their minds as to whether or not to go with Mourinho.
Many reports suggest that the Portuguese tactician has signed a pre-contract with the Red Devils, while others claim Louis van Gaal will stay for another season if the Red Devils qualify for Champions League football next season.
Zidane has lost only two out of his 16 games in charge of Los Merengues, but a Champions League exit against the eighth-placed team in the Bundesliga would apparently be unacceptable for Real.
