Spanish giants Real Madrid have spent millions on making sure they have the best players in the game, so today we a look at the 10 most expensive midfielders they have purchased.

According to Transfermarkt, Colombian superstar James Rodriguez is the club's most expensive midfielder ever, costing them €80 million (R1.3 billion) in 2014.
In second place is current Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane, when he made the move from Serie A giants Juventus for a fee of €73.5 million (R1.25 billion).
Third is one of Real's most loved stars, Kaka. The Brazilian sadly suffered with injury during his time in Spain, but cost the club €65 million (R1.1 billion).
Former FC Barcelona star Luis Figo comes in at fourth place, in a transfer that caused lots of controversy at the time. The Portuguese was slated by the Catalan club's supporters after announcing the move, and cost Los Blancos €60 million (R1 billion).
Fifth place sees former Manchester United and England midfielder David Beckham. The man known as "Golden Balls" was a massive hit in Madrid, and cost them €37.5 million (R640 million).
In the sixth and seventh spots are Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso and Real Sociedad star Asier Illarramendi. The pair cost the club €35 million (R598 million) and €32 million (R546 million), respectfully.
Mateo Kovacic arrived at the club this season after being brought in by Rafael Benitez, with the Spanish giants forking out €31 million (R529 million) for his signature.

Ninth place is a two-way tie, with Isco and Luka Modric each costing Los Blancos €30 million (R512 million).
