The Frenchman hit out at the Spaniard after Sunday night's derby against Atletico Madrid, in which he was taken off having continued his good goalscoring run of six La Liga strikes in as many matches.
Benitez has now commented on what Benzema said in the press, admitting he understands his striker's frustrations.
"Benzema's words don't bother me. I love Karim, he's a phenomenon," he told COPE.
"I'd also be angry if I'm on a scoring streak and the manager decides to take me off."
In the six league matches Benzema has played this season, he has only completed 90 minutes once – ironically, it was the only game he failed to score in.
The Frenchman also completed the full match in Real's first UEFA Champions League outing against Shakhtar Donetsk, but only played 67 minutes against Malmo.
