Real Madrid stalwart Pepe hit out at Los Blancos' critics after his team's 2-1 victory over FC Barcelona in El Clasico on Saturday.
Real were able to avenge their 4-0 defeat by the Catalan giants earlier this season, with Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo firing Los Blancos home despite conceding first early in the second half.
The 2-1 loss was the Blaugrana's first defeat in 40 matches, and the Portugal defender was delighted to prove critics wrong.
"They said we were supposed to (get beaten) by four or five," Pepe told Marca.
"With 10 players, we have shown sacrifice (for what) seemed impossible.
"The victory is for the fans. Many things have been said – that we have no quality, and Cristiano would not make his mark. It was all unfair."
The former FC Porto defender believes the victory over their arch-rivals could be the boost Real need to finish the season strongly, in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.
"We hope to get lucky in the Champions League and reach the final. Humbly, La Liga is possible," he added.
Pepe has made 22 appearances for the Santiago Bernabeu club this season, scoring one goal in the process.
