Pepe Has A Dig At Real Madrid's Fans
After a trophy-laden spell with Real Madrid, Besiktas defender Pepe has now had a dig at Los Blancos supporters.
The 34-year-old spent 10 years at the Santiago Bernabeu, helping them lift three La Liga titles, three UEFA Champions League crowns and two FIFA Club World Cup trophies, among other pieces of silverware.
In an exclusive interview with beIN SPORTS, the Portugal international criticised his former team's fans, and described the atmosphere in the stadium as "unenthusiastic" compared to what he is experiencing now in Turkey.
"Perhaps Real Madrid fans won't like me saying this, but they say Real Madrid fans transmit enthusiasm, but I don't think they do. That's not the reality," Pepe said during the interview.
"The Besiktas fans are very passionate. When you go out on to the pitch, the noise coming from the stands always hits you.
"The atmosphere at Besiktas is very different to at Real Madrid. In Turkey, people really love the sport, they only think about football.
"After games, we can hear the noise of the supporters until the early hours of the morning."
The centre back made 334 appearances for Real, scored 15 goals and assisted a further 19 strikes along the way.
