Striker Antoine Griezmann has put pen to paper on a new deal at Atletico Madrid, despite being strongly linked to Manchester United.
Many tipped the Frenchman to join the Red Devils ahead of next season, but when Atletico's transfer ban was upheld, the player decided to stay at the club.
Griezmann has now signed a new five-year deal with the Rojiblancos, and apologised to fans who perhaps thought he was trying to force a move away from the Vicente Calderon.
"The first thing I want to do is apologise to people who have misunderstood my statements," the Frenchman said via the club's official website.
"Maybe I expressed myself wrong or some would like to make headlines where there were none, but since I have arrived I give everything for my club, my colleagues and my coaching staff, and I am very happy to relive a season more with all of you."
The player was in excellent form for the Spanish club last season, scoring 26 goals and assisting a further 12 strikes.
