Atletico Let Lead Slip At Sporting Gijon

La Liga
Result: Sporting Gijon 2-1 Atletico Madrid
Date: 19 March 2016
Venue: Estadio Municipal El Molinón
Atletico Madrid's La Liga title hopes were dealt a blow on Saturday as they lost 2-1 at Sporting Gijon despite leading for most of the game.
The visitors put the pressure on Gijon straight from the get-go as they threatened to score in the second minute. Correa sent a low cross into the area and Antoine Griezmann was in position to take advantage but he lost his footing at the vital moment.
However, it was Sporting who increased the tempo and came close to scoring in the 22nd minute. Correa was dispossessed, allowing Lopez to swing in a cross which Kranevitter sliced just over his own goal.
The opener arrived in the 29th minute at the other end of the pitch. The Rojiblancos were awarded a dubious free kick, giving Griezmann a chance to curl the ball into the top corner of the goal from 20 yards for a 1-0 lead.
Atletico had a good chance just after the break when Vietto did great work on the wing, beating a few defenders before crossing towards Correa, but Lopez cut it out just in time.
Sporting were back on level terms in the 79th minute. A free kick saw Arnaldo Sanabria hammer the ball through the wall via a deflection to find the back of the net.
The hosts should have netted their winner in the 87th minute, but Carlos Castro somehow hit the bar from close range.
However, Castro's blushes were spared two minutes later when a cross from Lopez picked him out and he calmly stroked the ball home to complete a brilliant comeback win.
