Ronaldo On Target As Real Stay Top
Result: Real Madrid 3-1 Las Palmas
Date: 31 October 2015
Venue: Santiago Bernabeu
Real Madrid strolled to a 3-1 win over Las Palmas to consolidate their position at the top of the La Liga standings.
Los Blancos wasted little time in taking the lead as they netted the opener in only the fourth minute. A poor clearance from Javi Varas gave the ball to Casemiro who found Isco at the back post. The former Malaga man made no mistake with the finish.
The lead was doubled 10 minutes later as Cristiano Ronaldo joined in on the goal scoring. Marcelo sent a lovely cross to the far post from the left flank and picked out Ronaldo who bulleted home the header.
Varas made a stunning save in the 26th minute as Real threatened to net a third. Jese Rodriguez beat a defender down the left wing and cut inside to crack a strike on target but the keeper made the one-on-one block.
The visitors got themselves back into the game in the 38th minute. El Zhar swung a corner kick into the area where Hernan rose highest to glance a header home.
However, Benitez's charges responded almost immediately to restore their two-goal cushion just before the break. Jese beat another defender on the left flank before firing home a great strike into the far corner of the goal.
Real seemed to find their fourth goal of the clash just past the hour mark when Ronaldo ghosted to the far post before sending a trademark finish into the back of the net, but it was flagged for offside.
The hosts kept their two-goal lead intact to remain top of the La Liga standings.
