Result: Espanyol 0-0 Atletico
Date: 14 March 2015
Venue: Estadi Cornella-El Prat
Atletico were held to a goalless draw at Espanyol after playing half of the game with only 10 men on Saturday.
The visitors had a chance to break the deadlock in the 11th minute when they won a free kick in a promising position. Fernando Torres got a touch to the delivery as he attempted to direct it goalwards but the Espanyol keeper tipped it over the bar.
Antoine Griezman came close in the 22nd minute as he pierced the left flank and cut inside to unleash a shot across goal. Casilla was content to let the ball go but it only just missed the target.
Atletico's job became more of a challenge in first-half stoppage time as they were reduced to 10 men. Miranda was shown a straight red card for raising his elbow before a hefty collision with an opponent. Torres was sacrificed for Gomez to maintain balance in the formation.
A controversial moment in the 50th minute saw an Atletico goal disallowed. Griezman put the ball into the back of the net after Godin's flick-on, but the referee penalised the Uruguay international for fouling Alvaro, even though there seemed to be little in it.
Casilla was called upon to keep Espanyol in the game once again in the 78th minute. Griezman put Raul Garcia though on goal, but the home keeper parried the shot away to keep the scoreline goalless.
