Lionel Messi and Neymar were in top form for Barcelona as they destroyed Elche 6-0 on the road in their La Liga clash on Saturday.
The Catalans came close to opening the scoring early in the game on a couple of occasions but had to wait till the 35th minute for Gerard Pique to break the deadlock. Xavi's free kick towards the far post picked out Pique who controlled it well before shooting on the turn.
The Blaugrana took a 1-0 lead into the break and were 2-0 ahead 10 minutes into the second half. Rafinha played Neymar through and he cut inside Pelegrin who could not get out of the Brazilian's way, causing him to go to ground for a Barca penalty which Lionel Messi stepped up to convert.
Elche were even deeper in trouble two minutes later as they were reduced to ten men. A late tackle from Faycal Fajr on Rafinha resulted in a second yellow card for the midfielder, leaving his side with a mountain to climb.
The result was virtually secured in the 69th minute as Neymar opened his account. Messi set up the goal as he evaded his marker before passing towards Neymar who bided his time before coolly finishing.
Two minutes later the Brazilian forward completed his brace. Messi yet again conjured up the chance as he sent a high ball over the defence which fell perfectly for Neymar to finish.
Barca made it 5-0 in the 88th minute as Messi got his name on the score sheet. Bartra produced a sensational pass for the Argentine to run onto in the area before placing his shot into the far corner of the goal.
A sixth goal arrived in stoppage time as Rafinha picked out Neymar who drove forward and squared it for Pedro at the far post to steer home.
