Goals from Angel Correa and Fernando Torres handed Atletico Madrid a 2-0 win over Eibar at the Ipura Municipal Stadium.
After a quiet opening to the game, Jackson Martinez nearly opened the scoring in the 19th minute but Riesego was on hand to deny the Colombian with a fine save.
The visitors went close once again in the 23rd minute when Martinez turned provider to pick out Vietto, who could only fire into the side-netting from a tight angle.
That proved to be the best of the openings in the opening 45 minutes, as the sides went into the break with the score locked at 0-0.
Atletico went close to breaking the deadlock shortly after the halftime break but Felipe Luis' swerving effort saved forced Riesego into a fine low save.
Jan Oblak had to be at his best in the 51st minute, as the shot-stopper pulled off a fine save at his near post to keep out Berjon' stinging effort from the edge of the area.
Atletico manager introduced Correa after 60 minutes and the impact was immediate, as the striker collected a pass from Fernando Torres inside the box, before rifling an effort into the roof of the net.
Corea then turned provider in the 76th minute, as the forward thread a pass for Torres, who showed great composure to lob Riesego from a tight angle.
Diego Simeone's men managed to see off a late surge from Eibar to clinch the three points and rise up to third in the La Liga standings.
Valencia were forced to settle for a point, after they were held to a goalless draw by Real Betis at the Mestalla on Saturday night.
