Real Madrid left it late against Cordoba on Saturday as they edged out a 2-1 win, despite Cristiano Ronaldo's red card.
The visitors were off to a disasterous start as they conceded a penalty in the second minute of the clash. Bebe cut in from the right and hit a powerful shot at goal that connected with Sergio Ramos's outstretched arm, resulting in a spot kick for Cordoba.
The score was 1-0 to the home team in the third minute as Nabil Ghilas converted the penalty. He fired into the top-right corner of the goal, beating Iker Casillas, who was at full stretch.
Los Blancos hit back in the 27th minute as they levelled matters once more. Karim Benzema bundled the ball across the line after a corner kick was cleverly flicked on to the Frenchman by Gareth Bale.
Cordoba gave Real a fright in the 56th minute as they came close to restoring their slender lead. Cartabia received the ball and made his way forward from deep before smashing a 25-yard shot at goal, but it went just wide of the far post.
Real were under pressure yet again in the 69th minute as Andone hit the crossbar with his chipped attempt. A mistake from Varane let the Cordoba man in behind the defence where he beat Casillas with a chip that bounced off the woodwork and was eventually gobbled up by the goalkeeper.
Los Merengues were dealt a massive blow in the 82nd minute as their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo was shown a straight red card. Ronaldo raised his hand to strike Edimar in the face and was justly shown a red card for his indiscretion.
However, the number advantage only lasted a few minutes as Cordoba were reduced to 10 men as well when Federico Cartabia was shown his second yellow card.
Cartabia's handball in the area also gave Real a penalty which Bale slotted to snatch all three points for the visitors.
