Ronaldo On Target As Real Maintain Top Spot
Result: Celta 1-3 Real Madrid
Date: 24 October 2015
Venue: Estadio de Balaídos
Real Madrid clinched a 3-1 win over Celta Vigo on Saturday to maintain their place at the top of the La Liga standings.
Los Blancos wasted little time in taking the lead as Cristiano Ronaldo got on the scoresheet. Vazquez created the chance as he threaded a perfect pass through behind Jonny for Ronaldo to latch onto with a first-time strike.
Real were under pressure in the 18th minute when the hosts threatened via Orellana who broke away into space at the far post before lashing a half-volley on target only to be denied by Keylor Navas.
However, it was the visitors who scored again in the 23rd minute. Jese cut in from the left wing and found space before sending a pass in behind for Danilo who smashed into the top corner of the goal for his first Real Madrid goal.
Navas proved his worth again just before the interval by pulling off another fantastic save for Madrid. Pablo Hernandez rose high to glance a header goalwards but the Costa Rican gloveman kept it out brilliantly.
Celta's problems were intensified just short of the hour mark when they were reduced to 10 men. Gustavo Daniel Cabral took issue to a yellow card that the referee showed Hernandez, and earned a second yellow in the process, leaving the hosts one man down.
Marcelo saved Real Madrid from conceding in the 73rd minute when he blocked a shot on the line after it initially beat Navas between his legs.
Despite being one man down, Celta pulled back a goal in the 85th minute as Nolito found a pocket of space on the edge of the box before firing home.
However, Marcelo popped up in stoppage time to score the visitors' third of the game and secure the three points.
