Messi Injury Overshadows Barca Win
Result: Barcelona 2-1 Las Palmas
Date: 26 September 2015
Venue: Camp Nou
Barcelona bounced back from their recent defeat to record a 2-1 win over Las Palmas on Saturday afternoon but the victory was marred by an early injury to Lionel Messi.
The Catalans were dealt a hefty blow in the opening 10 minutes as Lionel Messi had to be replaced after injuring his knee inside the Las Palmas area. It is the shortest time Messi has spent on the pitch for Barca since 2005.
Despite the setback it was the hosts who opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Sergi Roberto crossed towards the far post where Luis Suarez was on hand to head home.
Jonathan Viera almost scored a phenomenal equaliser in the 35th minute as he tried his luck from 30 yards with Ter Stegen off his line. However, the gloveman got back just enough to tip the ball over the bar.
Suarez doubled Barca's lead nine minutes into the second half, completing his brace in the process. Neymar curled a pass to Munir on the right wing and he cut inside before playing it into the area where Sergio Busquets dummied, allowing Suarez to find the back of the net.
In the 66th minute Neymar had a chance to secure the win from the spot after a poor tackle gave Barca a penalty. However, the Brazilian sent his penalty miles over the bar.
Barca were put under pressure in the last few minutes as Las Palmas pulled a goal back. Javier Mascherano gave the ball away cheaply and the visitors countered, with Jonathan Viera providing the finishing touch.
