Atletico Maintain Pressure On Barcelona

La Liga
Result: Atletico Madrid 3-0 Granada
Date: 17 April 2016
Venue: Estadio Vicente Calderón
Atletico Madrid kept the pressure on La Liga leaders Barcelona with a convincing 3-0 win over Granada on Sunday.
The Rojiblancos dominated possession in the early stages while Granada managed to absorb the pressure, but the defences wouldn't hold for long.
In the 15th minute the first crack appeared as Koke netted the first goal for the hosts. Hernandez got forward and drilled a cross into the area where Fernando Torres sent a shot at goal. His effort was blocked but it fell for Koke who smashed it home from 10 yards.
Granada responded well after going behind as they conjured up a chance in the 29th minute. Some slick build-up play saw them advance into the Atletico box but Rochina's effort at goal was well wide.
A few minutes later the visitors came within inches of equalising. Once again it was Rochina who sent a shiver down the Atletico spine with a stinging effort from outside the box that rattled the woodwork on this occasion.
Diego Simeone's charges did well to survive the onslaught and came back to double their own lead just shy of the hour mark. Koke turned provider this time as he sent a well-timed through-ball for Torres to run onto and strike coolly over the onrushing Fernandez.
The second goal seemed to give Atletico a shot in the arm as they looked like netting a third with every subsequent attack.
In the 83rd minute the third goal arrived as Angel Correa sealed the three points by speeding away from the defenders before placing his shot past Fernandez.
The win sees Atletico move level on points with Barcelona, who were yet to play Valencia at the time of writing.
