The Catalan giants have been busy in the market over the last few weeks and announced the arrival of the Frenchman on Friday.
The Blaugrana reportedly agreed to a €105 million (R1.64bn) fee, plus another €42 million (R654m) in performance based add-ons with only Neymar’s world record deal of €222 million (R3.45bn) more expensive.
Overall, Barca have now spent €192.5 million (R3bn) this window, signing Dembele, Paulinho (€40 million, R623m), Nelson Semedo (€30.5 million, R475m) as well as Gerard Deulofeu (€12 million, R187m) and Marlon (€5 million, R78m).
Dembele, whose transfer was completed on Monday, was bought as like-for-like replacement for Neymar and will feature in the Brazilian’s previous role on the left-wing.
Meanwhile, right-back Nelson Semedo is likely to be the only other regular started while Paulinho and Deloufeu strengthen the squad’s depth.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen will remain Barca’s No.1 goalkeeper, with Semedo, Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti and Jordi Alba likely to form Ernesto Valverde’s back-four. Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta are expected to be the main choices in the central midfield position after the club reportedly missed out on African star Jean Michael Seri.
Dembele, who is similarly strong with both feed, will start on the left wing, while Lionel Messi will feature on his preferred right side with Luis Suarez likely to start upfront once he returns from his current injury.
