Real Madrid have topped La Liga since the start of the season, but surprisingly the have only won three matches against the league’s top five so far.
Los Blancos have found life difficult against the teams sitting around them on the table this season, and have seen themselves drop 10 points to the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, and Villarreal.
Their worst performances this season have come against city rivals Atletico Madrid, as they lost 2-1 at the Bernabeu and then got hammered 4-0 at the Vincente Calderon.
They also lost 2-0 against Valencia at the start of 2015 and recently drew 1-1 with Villarreal, after taking the lead.
In the seven matches against these top five opponents, Los Blancos have scored 10 goals and conceded eleven, which couldn’t be more different to the form they have been showing against the rest of their opposition - in which they have averaged three goals per game and conceded only 0.9.
Despite all of that, Real Madrid have had some positive results, one being the 3-1 thumping of Barcelona and a 2-1 win against a stubborn Sevilla.
Madrid still have to play three more games against top five opposition, two away from home (Barcelona and Sevilla) and one at the Bernabeu, against Valencia.
