Gerard Pique In Tears As He Offers Spain Retirement
Defender Gerard Pique was in tears after FC Barcelona’s 3-0 win this weekend, as he offered to quit the Spanish national team.
Riot police in Spain are believed to have raided polling stations across Catalonia on Sunday in order to stop their vote for independence, with some reports suggesting that more than 300 people were injured in the process.
Pique, a proud Catalan, made his views on the matter loud and clear after Barca's game, insisting that if he is seen as a problem in the Spanish national team, he will retire from his duties.
"If any directors or if the Spanish FA believe that I could be a problem or annoy the national team then I am willing to step aside," he told Eurosport.
"I am proud of the Catalan people.
"This has been my worst experience as a professional.
"We have had seven years of demonstrations without violence and what happened today has been seen around the world."
Barca's 3-0 win over Las Palmas was played behind closed doors on Sunday.
