"Real Madrid and adidas have unveiled the European and La Liga champion's third kit for the 2017/18 campaign,” a statement on Los Blancos' official website read.
"It is sky blue in colour and has a special touch: Whites fans from around the world took part in the design process, in order to give the team's new kit a truly unique and creative feel.
"All of the designs presented were subject to a primary round of voting by fans on the Creator Studio platform and the 100 most popular entries were then passed on to a board of experts and legendary former Real Madrid players, who eventually chose the winner.
"The third kit combines a classic, simple style with a creative and contemporary edge.
"The three adidas stripes run along the top of the shoulders and are black in colour whilst the club badge, adidas logo and sponsor logo are in white. A colourful combination of pixels adorn the top right and bottom left corners of the jersey."
Jesus Serrano – the fan who designed Real's new third kit, and who got to meet the team's stars during their pre-season tour of the United States as a result – explained what inspired his design.
"My inspiration was the third kit from the 1996/97 campaign, which was white with two purple parts. In reality, though, it is entirely different because it is blue in colour. I used two shades of blue, differentiated by a few pixels," he said.
"I still can't believe it will be the third kit for Real Madrid. I'm so glad I was able to meet the players and Zidane, he is one of my idols. It was great meeting them."
The new 2017/18 sky blue kit will replace Real's black and purple colourway third kit from last season.
