Did Suarez Get Himself Suspended On Purpose?

FC Barcelona superstar Luis Suarez will miss the Catalan club’s next league game. Was he trying to get himself suspended ahead of El Clasico against Real Madrid?

9 Of Messi's Most Memorable Bust-Ups

The Spanish giants played away to Sevilla on Sunday night, where goals from Lionel Messi and Suarez secured a win for the Catalans, after the home side took the lead early in the first half.

The win saw Barca keep the pressure on Los Blancos at the top of the La Liga standings, with Luis Enrique's side just two points behind Real heading into the international break.

Barca play only two more league matches before the first Clasico of the season, and Suarez appeared to be aware of that in the last minutes of their clash against Sevilla.

The Uruguayan had picked up four yellow cards prior to their match on Sunday, and with around five minutes until the final whistle, Suarez seemed to over-remonstrate with the referee in order to get himself suspended for his side’s next league game against Malaga.

The striker won a foul for Barca in the dying seconds of the game, and reacted angrily towards the match official, who showed him a yellow card for protest.

Suarez’s actions appeared forced, and he even admitted the yellow card was perhaps a good idea so he can avoid the possibility of missing the Clasico.

“The yellow card was actually a good thing,” Suarez told Canal Plus.

“I start with a clean slate again ahead of games away against Real Sociedad and versus Real Madrid.”

On the football front, Suarez has played 16 matches this season, scoring 11 goals and assisting a further six strikes.
