Argentina winger Angel Di Maria was sold to Manchester United because he was “too ugly”, according to a former Spanish player.
Former Barcelona winger Carles Rexach revelled that Di Maria was sold by Los Blancos, because he did not fit the ‘Galactico’ tag which is required at Real Madrid.
Rexach revealed that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez considered the Argentine "too ugly" to be a superstar at the Bernabeu and that’s why they opted to sell him for the likes of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez.
"Florentino Perez looks at the world market and wants a team of 'Galacticos' for everyone to admire,” Rexach told Regio7.
"(Vicente) Del Bosque and Di Maria are too ugly for Real Madrid, they are different from Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez.
"Do you understand what I mean? (Cristiano) Ronaldo is the flagship of the club. Perez is selling an international brand."
Di Maria played 190 games for Real Madrid before making his move to Manchester United and scored 36 goals along the way.
