Superstar Ronaldinho was sold by Pep Guardiola at FC Barcelona without playing a single match under the Spaniard. Here are another seven stars who were treated similarly by football’s biggest bosses, including Jose Mourinho.
Spanish manager Guardiola is a manager who is not afraid to make big decisions, as we have seen with the dropping of Joe Hart at Manchester City. The English goalkeeper has been the Citizens’ first choice keeper over a number of years, but it looks like he could be on his way out.
Ronaldinho was another star who felt Guardiola’s wrath, when he was sold from Barca to Milan in 2008 before playing a single minute under the boss.
Brazilian defender Danilo also features in the gallery, but his fate was perhaps different to the others. He was first choice under Rafael Benitez at Real for the first half of the season, but when Zinedine Zidane replaced the Spanish manager Danilo was relegated to the bench and replaced with fan-favourite Dani Carvajal.
Jose Mourinho has also not been scared to drop big players, such as Juan Mata and Kevin de Bruyne at Chelsea in 2014, as well as Bastian Schweinsteiger at Manchester United this season.
