Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta has penned a new four-year deal with the club.
The full-back was named City's Player of the Year last season after some outstanding performances for the Citizens.
The Argentina international was linked with a possible move to Italy this summer after having spent five years with City following his transfer from Espanyol back in 2008.
The news will come as a boost to City as they prepare for the opening game of the season against Newcastle United.
A statement on the club's official website read, "Pablo Zabaleta has committed his long term future to City by signing a new four-year contract which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2017.
"The defender, who was voted Etihad Player of the Year for 2012/13, joined the Blues in 2008 from Espanyol and has gone on to make 175 appearances for the club.
"The defender agreed the new deal on the eve of City’s Premier League opener against Newcastle, and Zaba aims to help the Blues to success in the 2013/14 campaign."
The player was delighted with the new deal, saying that City has become his home.
"I have been here for five years and it feels like home," he added.
"Signing a contract extension with the club makes me feel very happy.
"I feel great here, I like the Premiership, and I think Manchester City are one of the clubs looking for success in the future.
"It is a club that is very well organised and when you see that everything works well you want to be here.
