Two goals in the second half from Ashley Young and Patrice Evra saw Manchester United into the semifinals of the Capital One Cup after beating Stoke City 2-0 at the Britannia Stadium on Wednesday night.

In the fourth minute Ashley Young had the first effort on goal from the edge of the box, but his shot went narrowly wide of the target.
Seven minutes later and Stoke created their first scoring opportunity as Geoff Cameron played a one-two with Jonathan Walters on the edge of the box, before firing his left footed strike a few yards over.

On the half hour mark hail began to pelt down and the game was stopped for roughly ten minutes.
After the short break both sides struggled to find their rhythm, but United did have the final say in the dying seconds of the half.
A corner-kick was glanced across the face of goal to Jonny Evans who saw his timid attempt bounce into the goalkeeper’s hands.
The second 45 started a little slowly, but sprang into life in the 63rd minute after a thunderbolt from Young 22-yards out from goal gave United the lead. The United player burst the back of the net after a lay off from Hernandez, 1-0.
United all but sealed their place in the next round of the Capital One Cup in the 78th minute after Patrice Evra received the ball on the edge of the box and cut into the area before curling the ball into the corner of the net, 2-0.
Stoke tried to find their way back into the match, but United kept it tight at the back and held firm to move into the semifinals of the cup competition.
