Yaya: City Will Become Greatest Club In The World

Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure, believes Manchester City will become “the greatest club in the world” in the next few years and says his former club, FC Barcelona, are scared of facing them in the Champions League.

The BBC African Footballer of the Year won the Champions League with Barcelona in 2009 before joining Manchester City for around €30m the following year.

Ever since he has been brilliant for the Citizens and helped them to win the FA Cup in 2011 – their first trophy in 35 years – and the Premier League in 2012 – their first league title since 1968.

He told Sky Sports: "To make history sometimes it takes longer.

“I am a lucky man to be in the right place because the club have brought in fantastic players.

“Everything is in a good place to be honest, and I'm sure in a couple of years Man City will become the greatest club in the world.”

In 157 games for the Citizens Yaya scored 39 goals and assisted a further 28. He has been in brilliant this season and scored nine goals already – the latest through his fourth free-kick against Fulham on the weekend.

Overall Man City have already scored 51 goals this season, 35 of them in just eight games at the Etihad Stadium. And Toure believes the Spanish champions Barcelona will be worried about traveling to City’s new fortress in the Champions League.

He added: "[Barcelona] are quite afraid about us, the way they see us play in the Premier League at home especially, they're quite scared.

“We play fantastic football and we score goals, its total attack.

“But it's going to be a tough game and for us we know if we're to win we need to be at the top of our game."

Yaya also recently expressed his desire to play alongside his former team-mate Lionel Messi at the Etihad Stadium.
