Who needs Suarez when you’ve got Giroud?
Giroud’s goals ensured the Gunners retained their grip at the top of the Premier League table, and week by week the notion that the trophy drought at the Emirates could end becomes more tantalising.
As good as he is, the idea that Giroud could be the man to fire Arsenal to glory was hardly taken seriously at the beginning of the season.
And Arsenal’s failed pursuits of Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain suggest that the club did not have 100% faith in Giroud either.
However, Wilshere is convinced that Giroud has the ability to lead Arsenal’s line to success, and he spoke highly of the striker after his weekend heroics.
"He’s been really impressive, especially at the beginning of the season when everyone was saying that Suarez was coming in to take his place," Wilshere said of Giroud, according to Soccernet.
"For someone playing in that position it would have been tough for him to lose his place.
"But he’s showed great character and, for me, he’s been our best player this season.
"He holds the ball up and brings others into play. He’s learned that the Premier League is tough and sometimes you have to push defenders off the ball.
"He’s got a great physique and a great base of fitness. In preseason he’s always first in the running and that’s surprising for a striker."
