Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the chase for Liverpool’s main target, Yevhen Konoplyanka, from Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.
Liverpool managing director, Ian Ayre, is currently in the Ukraine to finalize the signing of the 24-year-old Ukraine international, who has made 35 appearances for his country.
Following his side’s 4-0 victory in the Merseyside derby, Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers was hopeful of making a ‘major signing’ before the transfer window closes.
The Reds have already missed out on their first main target, Mohamed Salah, who instead joined Chelsea and have also made bad experiences with Tottenham becoming involved in their negotiations over Willian, who later also opted for Chelsea.
Tottenham are looking for another forward with the imminent departure of Jermaine Defoe to Toronto, and have reportedly now entered the chase for Konoplyanka.
“I had a long and productive conversation with the chairman of another English club," the player's agent, James Lippett told Ukrainia media.
"The chances of Yevhen moving to England soon are very high. His club might be Liverpool or another English club."
Dnipro Dnipropetraosk want £16m for the player, whose contract has one year left, and Ian Ayre was hopeful to fly the player in for a medical on Thursday.
If Tottenham, would somehow successfully muscle in on the transfer, Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers would again be left frustrated after Tottenham also snatched Gylfi Sigurdsson and Clint Dempsey ahead of their rivals.
