News coming from the Catalan giants in the past days should be very concerning for FC Barcelona fans, because the feud between the Barca board and their Argentine superstar could drive Messi away from their beloved club.
The rant started with vice president Javier Faus openly expressing his disinterest in renewing Messi’s contract at this point in time.
“I don’t see why we should [renew Messi’s contract again],” Faus told Catalan radio station RAC1.
“He has just signed a new contract until 2018 – and we don’t have to offer an improved contract every six months.”
The Argentine international, who is currently recovering from his recent injury in his home country, didn’t take long to respond furiously.
“Barcelona are the world’s best club and they should have the best directors,” Messi told RAC1.
“Senor Faus is someone who doesn’t know anything about football and wants to manage Barcelona like a business.”
Now Jordi Majo, a former Barcelona presidential candidate, criticised Messi publicly for his unnecessary response.
“What Messi has done has caused unnecessary problems. He doesn’t understand companies, economics or how Barca is run, so it would have been better for him to stay quiet,” Mayo said.
The argument arose after Barca president Sandro Rosell said “the world’s best player deserves to be the highest-paid player”, implying Messi should receive an improvement on his current deal to level Cristiano Ronaldo’s new €21m contract.
The main concern around Messi's current deal is his €250m buyout-clause which could possibly be paid by Manchester City or Paris Saint German.
Yesterday the Manchester City players Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta put new oil in the fire by stating City should buy Messi and that “he [Messi] asked a lot about City” (Zabaleta).
