Why Ronaldinho Had A Fake Passport Revealed?

With many confused as to why Brazil and FC Barcelona legend Ronaldinho was carrying a fake passport that led to his arrest in Paraguay, the reason he had one has now seemingly been revealed.

Early last month, the 39-year-old and his older brother Roberto Assis were detained in Paraguay after being found with fake passports, something that raised eyebrows, especially as Ronaldinho would not have needed a passport to enter the South American country.

Many were also bewildered as Ronaldinho has one of the most recognisable faces in the world, with his lawyers saying the Brazilian and his sibling were given the false documents as gifts from a businessperson in Paraguay.

In a conversation with UOL journalist Ricardo Perrone, who visited the jail where Ronaldinho was being held, Soccer Laduma learned that the former AC Milan man was told the passport would allow him to start a business in Paraguay, and would also allow him to pay less tax.

"The lawyers said that (Roberto) Assis was told that it was a good idea to have the passport from Paraguay because with this passport, with his identification, with these papers, he could have a company in Paraguay and also he could pay less tax, and that would very good for the business," Perrone said.

"But, in fact, what we know is that to have a company in Paraguay, you don't need to have a passport, you only need to have an I.D.

"So we don't know why he also got the passport because his I.D document would have been enough, but everything is very strange because this kind of I.D is a long process and he got everything very quickly. It's (usually) a process that takes a year, and we don't know why he didn't notice that there was something wrong with that.

"The lawyers say that Assis and Ronaldinho asked for the passport, but they were told that the passports were good, original, and that they didn't know they were fake."

Ronaldinho and his brother were recently released into house arrest, with the investigation in Paraguay still ongoing.
