West Brom and Liverpool Share The Spoils

Victor Anichebe came off the bench to rescue a point for West Bromwich Albion as they drew 1-1 with Liverpool at the Hawthorns.

The draw sees Brendan Rodger's side remain fourth in the table, while The Baggies move up to 16th, one point clear of the relegation zone.

Youssouf Mulumbu tried his luck from distance in the 16th minute after being teed up by Billy Jones, but the midfielder's shot was blocked by Steven Gerrard.

Daniel Sturridge gave Liverpool the lead in the 24th minute with a finish from close range after being picked out by Luis Suarez.

Luis Suarez tried his luck with a free kick from 30-yards out in the 27th minute but the striker curled his effort wide of the target.

Zoltan Gera came close to equalising for West Brom in he 42nd minute, the midfielder fired just wide from 20-yards out.

Gareth McAuley came close to equalising for the Baggies in the 53rd minute, as the defender rose highest to meet Chris Brunt's corner only for Simon Mignolet to pull off a fine save.

Suarez wasted an opportunity to double Liverpool's lead just six minutes later, after the Uruguayan was left one on one with Ben Foster, but failed to beat the onrushing keeper.

Brunt was next to test Mignolet in the 65th minute with a free kick from the edge of the area, but the Belgian got down well to deny the midfielder.

Two minutes later and substitute Victor Anichebe equalised for the home side after the Nigerian pounced on Kolo Toure's back pass before smashing his effort into the bottom corner.

Joe Allen tried his luck from range in the 77th minute but the substitute fired his effort straight at Foster.

Neither side created any meaningful opportunities in the closing stages, with the home side content with just the one point.
