Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has hailed the scoring form of Gunners striker Olivier Giroud.

The 26-year-old hit-man has taken his time settling into British football, after his arrival at the Emirates from Montpellier at the beginning of the season.

Wenger acknowledges that Giroud had been “sloppy”, as he sought to acclimatise to the rarefied climate of English football.

But the French international has now scored four goals in two games, after his brace against Brighton in the FA Cup.

And Wenger believes Giroud is starting to show that as a striker, he is perfectly adapted to the English top flight.

Wenger says that in some respects, Giroud is a traditional English-style centre-forward, who could have played in the old first division.

"He started a bit sloppy and has become stronger and stronger," Wenger said of Giroud to the Arsenal website.

"When he gets into the fighting mode, it is difficult to handle him. This guy is tall, strong and quicker than people think he is. He has good finishing as well.

"He could have played in England 20 years ago, 10 years ago and today. He has all you need to play as a centre-forward. He has a physical presence. Giroud gives us something different. I believe with him and Theo [Walcott] we have a good blend."

Giroud meanwhile, is oozing confidence after his surge into form.

And he insists that despite his innocuous start, he is happy to have found his feet in England.

"I chose this championship because there is more intensity, more physically, you have to be ready in the athletic way," he said.

"I like it, but I like to play good football as well."

Arsenal’s next game is a tricky home tie against Liverpool in the league on Wednesday.

Both fallen giants of the EPL have been impossible to predict this season, and the Gunners will hope Giroud’s purple patch continues against the erratic Reds.
