Manchester United have reportedly added their name to the list of Victor Wanyama’s Premier League suitors, according to Sky Sports.
Red Devils manager Alex Ferguson apparently travelled to Scotland to watch the Kenyan international midfielder in action for Celtic against Dundee United.
The 21-year-old has been a star performer for the Scottish champions since his move there from Germinal Beerschot in 2011, and he captured the imagination of scouts across Europe with a pair of barnstorming performances against Barcelona in the group stage of this season’s Uefa Champions League.
Suitably impressed were United’s scouts that Fergie was compelled to watch Wanyama up close, and saw the burly box-to-box Nairobi boy score a goal in Celtic’s 4-0 win over Dundee.
Sky suggests that Fergie liked what he saw, and that a bid for Wanayama- who has stalled on accepting a contract extension from Celtic since his name started appearing in lights- could be lodged as soon as this weekend.
United will have to move quickly if they are to snap up one of Africa’s rising stars.
Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have also all been credited with interest in Wanyama, with the growing consensus that he has what it takes to perform at football’s highest level.
