Walcott Brace Secures Win

A brace from Theo Walcott saw Arsenal come from a goal behind to beat West ham 3-1 in a Barclays Premiership match at Upon Park on Boxing Day.

Neither side took the ascendancy early on as both sides struggled to control the midfield battle.

Arsenal created the first chance in the 14th minute after a Mertesacker free-kick was not cleared which allowed Cazorla to header an attempt on goal, but Adrian was alert to parry the effort away from goal.

Ten minutes later and West Ham created their first chance as Diame let loose from long range, but he saw his shot well-saved by the keeper.

In the 26th minute Walcott had a chance to open the scoring, but his close range volley went narrowly wide of the target.

Two minutes from the break Arsenal were unlucky not to open the scoring as Arteta was quickest to react after a Cazorla free-kick fell to him just inside the box, but he fired his effort just wide.

A minute into the second 45, Carton Cole made Arsenal pay for their missed opportunities in front of goal after he bundled in the rebound after Noble's shot was parried by the keeper, 1-0.

West Ham Should have doubled the lead four minutes later after a through ball found Jarvis through on goal, but his shot was superbly saved by the keeper

Arsenal, though, were not to be outdone and fought back, but they found a stubborn West Ham defence in their way.

Finally, in the 68th minute they found the equaliser as Walcott fired home a low effort from just outside the box, 1-1.

Three minutes later and Arsenal found their second goal as Walcott headed home a Poldolski cross, 2-1.

Arsenal made certain of the points in the 78th minute as an effort from Poldoski found the bottom of the goal from just outside the box, 3-1.
