Vidic Disagrees With Moyes

Despite manager David Moyes insisting that Manchester United are not out of the title race, defender Nemanja Vidic has conceded that any hope of defending their English Premier League title went down the drain after their 3-1 loss to Chelsea on Sunday.

A hat-trick from Samuel Eto’o sealed United’s fate on the day which sees them now trailing league leaders Arsenal by 14 points.

Vidic insists his side is too far behind to mount a proper challenge and will now have to focus on finishing in the top four to ensure a Champions League spot next season.

“We are too far behind and we have now to focus on the top three or four,” said Vidic.

“We have to be positive, today (Sunday) we didn't play a bad game. They had three shots and scored three goals and that's the difference in the game, we have been punished for every mistake we made.

“It's not going to be easy, we have to now fight to achieve the Champions League. We have to stay positive and stick together and work hard. With a bit of luck hopefully we can achieve that.”

Vidic failed to finish the game after he was sent off in the 90th minute for receiving a straight red card for a bad tackle on Eden Hazard.

Speaking after the game, the Serbian said he did not feel that the referee made the right decision.

“My feeling is that it was very harsh because I went for the ball. Hazard we know is a sharp player and he just pushed the ball,” added the United defender.

“In my opinion it was not a red card I was disappointed with that decision at the time.”

Reflecting on United’s dismal season thus far which sees them occupying seventh place on the table, Vidic refused to blame manager David Moyes for their downfall.

“We cannot always speak about manager's, the players are tired of speaking about that because the manager is trying to do the best he can,” concluded Vidic.
