Spain coach, Vicente del Bosque, has dropped Fernando Torres and Juan Mata from his squad following a dreadful World Cup in Brazil.
The pair has been dropped from the latest Spain squad for a friendly against France and a Euro 16 qualifier against Macedonia.
Torres played all three games at the World Cup in Brazil, coming on as a substitute in the defeats against Netherlands and Chile and scoring in his start against Australia.
He hasn’t featured in the current campaign for Chelsea and is linked with a move to AC Milan after falling behind Diego Costa and Didier Drogba in Jose Mourinho’s pecking order.
Juan Mata, meanwhile, only played 34 minutes at the World Cup and despite scoring one goal has fallen behind Santi Cazorla in Del Bosque’s squad.
Atletico midfielder, Raul Garcia, Valencia striker, Pablo Alcacer, Athletic Bilbao defender, Mikel San Jose, and Espanyol goalkeeper, Kiko Casilla, all have their first call-ups.
“This is a squad for the present but designed looking toward the future,” Del Bosque said.
“This is a special list given recent events. It comes after our poor showing at the World Cup and we have to look ahead.”
