United Win, Dikgacoi Sees Red

In a game where South Africa’s Kagisho Dikgacoi saw red Manchester United ran out 2-0 winners over Crystal Palace in a Barclays Premiership match at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney scored for the Red Devils in a match where the away side finished with ten men after Digacoi was sent off in the 44th minute.

The loss was Palace’s third of the season while David Moyes recorded his first win at home and handed Marouane Fellaini his debut in a United shirt.

The home side made their intentions clear early on as Michael Carrick let loose with a stinging shot from just outside the box in the third minute, but the keeper was up to the task and made a fine save.

Van Persie came closest to scoring next when he attempted a cheeky back heel from a couple yards out after latching onto a low Patrice Evra cross in the 36th minute, but his effort went narrowly wide.

Three minutes later and Van Persie struck the crossbar from 16-yards out after controlling a pass from Rooney on his chest before firing onto the woodwork.

A minute before half time Dikgacoi saw red after he was sent from the field for bringing down Ashley Young inside the box. He was deemed as the last defender and was sent for an early shower as the referee awarded a penalty-kick.

Van Persie made no mistake from the spot to give United the lead going into the break, 1-0.

The second 45 saw United continue to dominate matters and Young should have doubled their lead in the 49th minute when he found himself one-on-one with the keeper, but he shot straight at Julian Speroni.

Fellaini was handed his United debut in the 62nd minute and he almost made an immediate impact when he saw a 22-yard volley well saved by the keeper in the 68th minute.

The result was put beyond doubt in the 81st minute when Rooney curled a 25-yard free-kick into the bottom left-hand corner, 2-0.

The win saw United up to second spot on the table for the time being.
