United Back To Winning Ways

Goals from Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck secured an impressive 2-0 win for Manchester United over Swansea City at Old Trafford.

The win leaves David Moyes' men in seventh, three points behind fourth placed Tottenham Hotspur, while Swansea remain in 13th position.

Jonjo Shelvey had an effort from range just after four minutes but the midfielder fired his shot straight at David De Gea.

Adnan Januzaj came close to giving United the lead in 10th minute with a curling free kick which struck the upright.

Gerhard Tremel got down well to deny Patrice Evra's long range shot in the 27th minute, after the Frenchman collected a pass from Micheal Carrick.

Darren Fletcher came close for United in the 34th minute with a shot from the edge of the box, which flew just over Tremel's bar.

Danny Welbeck squandered a great chance to put the home side ahead in the 40th minute but the striker's shot from inside the area went just wide after being picked out by Rafael Da Silva.

Antonio Valencia put the Red Devils ahead just after the halftime break, after Shinji Kagawa's header was saved by Tremel, the ball fell to Valencia, who cooly slotted home.

Kagawa was next to try his luck from range but the Japan international's effort went just over, following some good play by Welbeck.

Welbeck doubled the home side's lead in the 58th minute with a flick from close range, after Evra's mistimed shot landed in the striker's path.

Chris Smalling could have increased United's adavantage to three goals but defender skied his effort over the bar with the goal at his mercy, after a great cross by Kagawa.

Jordi Amat could have pulled a goal back for Swansea but the midfielder's header was comfortably collected by De Gea.

Kagawa could have made it three for United in the 76th after the Japanese evaded the challenge of Ben Davies in the box but stumbled just before he was about to shoot.
