Ronaldo Fires Madrid To Super Cup Glory

A brace from Cristiano Ronaldo helped Real Madrid secure a 2-0 win over Sevilla to claim the UEFA Super Cup.

Carlo Ancelotti gave debuts to Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, as Los Blancos claimed their first piece of silverware for the season.

The game got off to a slow start, with Madrid seeing a lot of the ball as expected, however, the first real opportunity arrived in the 17th minute, as Beto pulled off a fine save to deny Bale from close range.

Three minutes later, Iker Casillas was called into action, this time Vidal forcing the Spanish international into a save at his near post from a tight angle.

Ronaldo came close to opening the scoring in the 25th minute but his low driven effort was forced Beto into another fine save.

However, five minutes later Los Blancos went ahead, as Bale's delightful cross picked out Ronaldo, who poked home from six-yards out.

Ronaldo then got his second of the game three minutes after the halftime break, with a powerful left-footed effort from the edge of the area.

It was proving to be busy for Beto between the sticks, as he kept out Karim Benzema's low-driven effort from 20-yards out in the 67th minute.

Iker Casillas was called into action in the 88th minute to deny Krychowiak's stinging effort, the Spanish number one had one of his quieter evenings in the poles.

It proved to a fairly comfortable evening for Ancelotti's side, as they secured their first Super Cup since 2002.
