Madrid Destroy Dortmund

Real Madrid showed their footballing class with comfortable 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal match at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

Goals from Gareth Bale, Isco and Cristiano Ronaldo handed the Spanish giants an impressive three goal advantage going into the second leg in a week’s time.

Madrid came out the blocks firing and opened the scoring after only three minutes when Isco created space inside the box for Bale and the Welshman showed quick feet to poke the ball home from close range, 1-0.

The early goal eased any nerves the home side had as they continued to dominate matters after that and added their second goal in the 26th minute when Isco found the back of the net from the edge of a box with clinical strike, 2-0.

Bale almost scored his side’s third three minutes later when he saw a 22-yard free-kick superbly tipped around the post by the keeper.

Dortmund managed to hold out for the remainder of the half and only entered the break two goals down.

Madrid continued to dictate terms in the second 45 and should have found another goal ten minutes after the restart, but somehow, from only a couple of yards out, Karim Benzema        fumbled a low Ronaldo cross wide of the target.

Three minutes later, however, and Madrid did find their third goal when Luka Modric slipped Ronaldo through on goal and the Portuguese international made no mistake as he slotted past the keeper, 3-0.

Dortmund tried to find their way back into the game after that as Madrid took their foot of the gas, but the Germans could not find any consolation on the night as the game ended 3-0 in favour of the Spanish team.
