David Moyes has a tough start as Manchester United manager ahead of him.
The fixture list for next season’s English Premier League campaign has been released, and for once defending champions United do not have the pleasure of a smooth lift-off.
First up for Moyes is a trip to League Cup winners Swansea on 17 August.
Then, for the Scotsman’s first league game at Old Trafford, he will come up against none other than The Special One, when Jose Mourinho makes his first return to United in his second coming as Chelsea boss.
Then, on 31 August, Moyes takes United to their greatest foes Liverpool, where he failed to win a single match in 11 seasons on Merseyside with Everton.
Mourinho and Chelsea's first match of the 2013-14 campaign is against promoted Hull at Stamford Bridge, while Manuel Pellegrini’s first match as Manchester City boss will be at home to Newcastle United.
Arsenal welcome Aston Villa to the Emirates to begin their latest quest for silverware, while Liverpool host Stoke and their new manager Mark Hughes.
Promoted Crystal Palace host Spurs at Selhurst Park, while Roberto Martinez’s first match in charge of Everton is at Norwich.
With sweeping changes in personnel at the Premier League’s top clubs, next season already has a mouth-watering flavour about it.
And the road from 17 August to the league climax on 11 May 2014 is surely going to be an exciting and dramatic one.
