Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain bagged a brace as Arsenal saw off Crystal Palace 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.
Nacho Monreal came close to opening the scoring for Arsenal in the sixth minute, the defender got on the end of Mesut Ozil's chip but could not beat the onrushing Julian Speroni.
After a quiet spell in the first half, Speroni was called into action in the 33rd minute, as the Brazilian reacted well to tip Ozil's free kick out for a corner.
Palace came close going ahead in the 38th minute, after some good work by Kagiso Dikgacoi, the ball ended up with Joel Ward on the right, who's cross found Cameron Jerome but the striker's effort was palmed away for a corner.
Per Mertersacker was next to have an effort on goal in the 42nd minute, the Germany international managed to get on the end Ozil's free kick but his header was easily dealt with by Speroni.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gave Arsenal the lead just after the halftime break with a neat lob over Speroni, after being picked out by Santi Corzola.
Cameron Jerome squandered a great chance to equalise just five minutes later, as Dikgacoi released Yannick Bolasie, who's cross found Jerome unmarked at the back post but his header drew a fine save from Wojciech Szczesny.
Chamberlain doubled Arsenal's lead in the 72nd minute with a low driven shot from the edge of the area, after some good link up play with Olivier Giroud.
Bolasie tried his luck from range in the 81st minute, the Palace winger turned well before firing just over the bar.
Mile Jedinak was next to have a dig from long range in the 84th minute but the Australian's shot went wide of the target.
