The Highest Spending Clubs In A Single Season

Only eight days into the January transfer window, and we have already seen enormous amounts of money being spent. Here are the clubs who currently hold the record for the highest expenditure in a single season.

The January window marks the second transfer window of a footballing season, and according to the Daily Star, there are three Premier League teams, two Serie A sides, two La Liga clubs and one Ligue 1 side that feature on the list of the 10 highest expenditures made by clubs in a single campaign.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are in the No. 1 spot, having spent a total of £370 million (R6.19 billion) pounds in the 2017/18 season so far, according to the Daily Star. The amount includes the world record fee paid for Neymar and Kylian Mbappe's £166 million (R2.78 billion) agreed transfer from Monaco, which will be made official at the end of this campaign.

La Liga leaders FC Barcelona are in second place after forking out a total of £277.03 million (R4.64 billion) in the current season so far, having signed the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Paulinho, Nelson Semedo, Gerard Deulofeu and Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.

Real Madrid's 2009/10 spending spree sees them in third place, with their expenditure of £228.18 million (R3.82 billion). That season saw Los Blancos bring in the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Xabi Alonso, Karim Benzema, Raul Albiol, Alvaro Negredo, Esteban Granero and Alvaro Arbeloa.

In fourth place is one of three entries in the top 10 from Manchester City, and this one is for the current 207/18 campaign. According to the Daily Star, the Citizens have forked out a total of £221 million (R3.7 billion) until now, and it will be no surprise if they add to this figure this month.

Reigning Premier League champions Chelsea are fifth, and it is also for their spending this season. Antonio Conte's club has spent a total of £192.18 million (R3.22 billion) so far, having brought in the likes of Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater, Antonio Rudiger, Davide Zappacosta and Ross Barkley.

Making up the rest of the top 10, according to the Daily, Star are Man City, Manchester United, AC Milan and Juventus.

n some fools here in mzansi think that r2 million, or r5 million or even r10 million is too much to pay for a player! But still the same pple want to compare themselves with the worlds best!problem is they want to take football as a business......! Which is wrong because football is entertainment! Not a business where profits are of paramount importance!
