There have been some crazy transfer fees in the past 10 years, for players such as Philippe Coutinho, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, but in recent times some valuable stars have moved from one club to another for free. Here are the 10 most valuable free agents in the past four years.

The Daily Star, using data from Transfermarkt, has claimed there are 10 stars who moved as free agents since 2014 but were worth at least £13.28 million (R217.50 million) at the time.

Former Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Manchester United on a free in 2016 and at the time was still worth £13.28 million (R217.50 million). The 36-year-old has gone on to make 53 appearances for the Old Trafford side, scoring 29 goals and assisting a further 10 strikes.

Earlier this season, we saw Leon Goretzka agree terms with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich for next season. The Schalke star was in the final six months of his contract, and made it clear that he will be leaving the in June 2018. The midfielder currently has a market value of £35.4 million (R580.2 million), but has not cost the Bavarian giants a single cent in transfer fees.

Poland international Robert Lewandowski shocked many when he decided to pack his bags and leave Borussia Dortmund for arch-rivals Bayern in 2014. At the time, the 29-year-old was worth £44.28 million (R725 million), and he, too, did not cost the Bundesliga giants any transfer fee.

Others who made the Daily Star's top 10 are Yevhen Konoplyanka, Sami Khedira, Sofiane Feghouli, Ever Banega, Sead Kolasinac, Wayne Rooney and Joel Matip.
