Carlos Tevez scored a hat-trick as Juventus moved six points clear at the top of the Serie A table after recording a 4-0 win over Sassuolo at the Juventus Arena on Sunday evening.
The Argentine opened the floodgates after just 15 minutes, while Federico Peluso also got on the scoresheet with a well worked header.
Juventus came into the game looking to bounce back from their midweek disappointment to Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League, while Sassuolo had seen their good run brought to an end last weekend.
Alessandro Longhi created the first opportunity at goal with a volley which sailed agonizingly wide of the near post after just two minute of play. It was a great start for Sassuolo.
But the visitors found themselves a goal down after just 15 minutes when Carlo Tevez tapped in Arturo Vidal’s dummy to hand the home side a 1-0 lead.
Juventus’ lead was doubled just before the half hour mark when Federico Peluso, who was making his fifth appearance all season long, brilliantly turned in a free-kick off a diving header. It may have taken a slight deflection off a defender.
Kwadwo Asamoah was then guilty of missing an open goal, while Gianluca Pegolo tipped over Tevez’s powerful free-kick out for a corner.
With just two minutes to go until the break, Pegolo pulled off another miracle on the line by pushing out Mauricio Isla’s powerful strike following Asamoah’s squared ball.
But it swiftly became one-way traffic when Tevez got his second on the night. The Argentine piped the ball off Pegolo’s feet before slotting it into the back of the net in a calm manner.
Tevez went inches wide of a hat-trick within 30 seconds of the restart with a shot which whiskered just wide of the goal frame. Juventus coach Antonio Conte didn’t even see the shot because he was still emerging from the changing room.
But the former Manchester City man did eventually get his third strike when he knocked in a Mauricio Isla cross at the near post to make it 4-0 after 68 minutes.
It proved to be enough to extend the gap over their nearest title contenders Roma, who play Milan on Monday evening.
