Ten-Man Ghana Sink Sudan

Despite playing most of the game with 10 men, Ghana powered their way to a 3-1 win away to Sudan in a 2014 World Cup qualifier on Friday night.

The Black Stars started the game well with Mubarak Wakaso testing the goalkeeper three minutes in before Fattah Hitch dealt with a dangerous free-kick into the area soon after.

Jonathan Mensah got onto the end of a corner in the 17th minute but his header was too weak to trouble the goalkeeper.

The pressure would pay off three minutes later though as Asamoah Gyan was placed perfectly to fire in after Boaky-Yiadom's shot had been cleared off the line.

The hosts were put straight back into the game in the 24th minute though when Richard Kissi Boateng was sent off for a foul in the area and Nadir Tayib made no mistake from the spot.

Ghana were stunned and Sudan tried to take advantage but some alert goalkeeping from Fatawu Dauda in the 31st minute prevented a second for the hosts.

Saif Eldin was then kept out by a brave block from Mesnah before John Boye went close with a header in the 37th minute.

Despite more good work from Sudan after the break, Gyan was in the mood and he secured his place as Ghana's highest goal scorer by bagging his 34th international goal.

The game swung back and forth with Mudathir El Tayeb hitting the post while Ghana were pushing more men forward in attack.

The decisive goal would arrive in the 83rd minute though when Sulley Muntari rattled the back of the net and Ghana saw out the remaining minutes to leave with all three points.

The result takes the Black Stars to the top of Group D but it could be temporary should Zambia see off Lesotho this weekend.
